« Daughter of the King, she is there, in her glory! »
On this August 15,
Mary, our Sister, our Mother, and our model of the contemplative life—she who teaches us to treasure and meditate on the Word in our hearts—has entered into the glory of Heaven!
The Assumption celebrates the mystery of Mary being taken up, body and soul, into the glory of Heaven. It is therefore not merely a commemoration of an event concerning Mary: it is also a promise for us. In her, we already contemplate the fulfillment toward which our whole life is directed: to be with God forever, in the fullness of life.
Today, together with the Angels and Archangels, we repeat with Gabriel:
“Rejoice, Full of Grace!”
Today, together with the Patriarchs and Prophets, we sing with David:
“Daughter of the King, she is there, in her glory! ”
Today, together with all the saints in heaven, and especially with Elizabeth, we proclaim:
“Blessed are you among women!”
And we, together with all the pilgrims of the earth, exult with joy in God our Savior:
“He has looked upon the humility of his handmaid. All generations will call her blessed! ”
On this occasion, on the evening of August 15, our community, as it does every year, held a torchlight procession to the far end of our garden, where our little grotto of Our Lady of Lourdes is located.
